Ranking is achieved via missions, and the number of missions needed has significantly increased in ED 1.5 and Horizons 2.0. The number of missions required to rank up also increases significantly with your rank i.e. it is much harder to get from Lord to Baron than from Master to Squire.

E.g. Lord -> Baron assume approximately you'll need 15 missions per 10% rank improvement.
