Going for mainly Vipers and Pythons (NPCs) in a low intensity combat zone with two medium gimbal MCs (and 2 small gimbal  beams) can get around 9-14 kills with full ammo, then I have to jump back to a station. Good for in-and-out fights and bounty hunting but not good for longer fights and you will need around 1k shots to kill a Clipper or similar. 

MrFaert's logic technically works because you ARE doing double damage thereby the ammo consumption is shared by the two.
