It's a pain. Although it's Elite's attempt to make mining less of a complete pointless venture. Up until it's introduction and the (ridiculously named) limpet additions to collect and scan asteroids mining was literally the most expensive hobby in the game, and I say hobby because it wasn't a viable way to make an income based on the opportunity cost of the venture itself. Opportunity cost alone it was literally costing miners about 2-3 million per gaming sessionof 6 hours to do. So all these 'miners' were grinding their butts off for negative rewards but because people are so inherently bad at economics and terrible at math and don't factor opporunity costs into things they thought they were just earning a measley 100kish per session grinding unware they were costing themselves the price of a Lakon Type 7 every fortnight to month.
