I have had the same exact experience with this ship. Same loadout as well, with one thing extra -- Military composite bulkheads! Yes the shields are weaker than the Vulture; however, even without the Mil Comp Bulkheads I had gotten into a few situations where I had no shields and had thruster malfuctions and this ship really absorbed the assault well. 

After 1.4 came out, I was flying my Vulture around and I ran into a guy in a RES in Robigo who had this ship. I asked him if he liked it and he told me not to hesitate as the FAS was the next logical step up from the Vulture. If your are on the fence about this ship, get it!
