I run a Vulture Whale Hunter. Twin Class 3 Beam Lasers will devastate most shields in remarkably short order, and do a fair job on the hull afterwards. For the money you're going to put out for this ship, If you want to take it into a fight, the shield is the worst place to skimp. If you're getting buzzed by Eagles and Sidewinders, you'll be alright, but anything that can fit Medium HP's, will chew through Class 4 shield if you don't have the manuverability to shake them. And this is NOT a small ship to go roll-dancing with.

Having said that, if you MUST have a Class 4, shield banks are what will save you. Just be aware that you will have a thermal glass jaw, and fight for the dog-tail as much as possible.
