Energy Link

The Energy Link is a tool with two modes: the legal transfer mode and the illegal overload mode. Transfer Mode moves power from or to the suit. The Overload Mode can short-circuit and deactivate devices, open locked doors and calibrate Mining Rigs.[1] The electrical pulse is lethal versus unshielded targets.[1] It comes equipped with the Flight Suit, Maverick Suit, Dominator Suit, and Artemis Suit.[2][3] It was added with ED: Odyssey.

Usage

The Energy Link is an important tool in a commander's kit.

In the legal Transfer mode, it is able to activate devices at settlements, such as powering doors or terminals in settlements without power. It can also recharge a suit's battery via Suit Recharge Sockets.

Overload mode

The mode is illegal. It can be used to short devices at settlements, either deactivating them such as shutting down a defense turret or forcing a door open without the required security clearance; such devices tend to have their power sockets protected by a maintenance panel that must be removed by a Maverick Suit's Arc Cutter.

Also note that the Overload function requires a significant expenditure of suit energy, may fail if the user's suit doesn't have enough spare energy (often occurs when the Overload would leave the suit with ~50% energy or less), and cannot be used at all with ~25% energy remaining or less. Commanders that plan to use the Overload feature often should carry some Energy Cells and may wish to invest in the Reduced Tool Battery Consumption modification at an appropriate Engineer.

Mining Rig and Energy Link

Mining Rigs can be charged with overload mode to calibrate it and for 100% efficiency.

Stealth attack

The Overload function can also work as lethal stealth weapon: it discharges a short-range electrical pulse, killing an unshielded person in a single burst, though it does nothing to shielded targets.

In addition to alerting personnel who see the user equip an Energy Link in the Overload configuration, using the Overload on a shielded target, missing entirely, or having it fail due to insufficient energy will alert nearby personnel as if the user had fired a weapon.
