FSD Experimental Effects Trade-off

The Mass Manager and Deep Charge experimental effects for Frame Shift Drives offer increased max jump range but in different ways.

Mass Manager increases the max jump range by 4% with no additional fuel consumption.

Deep Charge permits using up to 10% more fuel per jump, to increase the jump range by approximately 4%. The actual increase varies slightly depending on FSD Class (due to the nature of the hyperspace distance-vs-fuel burn equation[1]).

This variation causes Deep Charge to have greater max jump range for Class 2 to 4 FSD, and Mass Manager to be greater above Class 5[2].

The jump range advantage of Deep Change on a small FSD however is very small (less than 1%) and may be unnoticeable in practice. The extra fuel usage of Deep Charge over Mass Manager (approximately 10%) when using max-range jumps over long distances will require more time spent fuel scooping.

Also, for jump distances less than "vanilla" range (engines without experimental effects), Deep Charge behaves the same as vanilla, while Mass Manager always uses less fuel at any jump distance.

Deep Charge has slightly greater max jump range than Mass Manager for smaller Class Frame Shift Drives, however it is generally outweighed by the extra fuel scooping requirements. Mass Manager is likely more practical for all FSD Classes.
