Help:Table
When to use a table
Use a table when readers need to compare related values across rows and columns. For a simple sequence, use a list instead. Keep tables compact, give each column a clear heading, and include meaningful text rather than relying on colour or position alone. On narrow screens, wide tables may be difficult to read.
Basic wikitext
A table starts with {|, each row after the first begins with |-, cells are separated by ||, and the table ends with |}. Header cells begin with !. Example:
{| class="wikitable"
! System !! Station
|-
| Sol || Jameson Memorial
|-
| Lave || Lave Station
|}
The wikitable class applies the site's common table styling when supported. Preview the result; punctuation and pipes inside templates or links can affect parsing.
Good table practice
Keep column meanings consistent and avoid merged cells where they make comparisons unclear. Provide a caption or nearby explanation if the subject is not obvious. Do not create a table just to control page layout. If the table is sortable, test it and see Help:Sortable tables.
