MediaWiki XML export can package page text and revision metadata for reuse or migration. It is separate from a database backup and does not include uploaded media binaries.

Export pages

Open Special:Export, enter the required page titles and read the available options. A current-only export and an export containing earlier revisions serve different purposes. Check what the resulting XML actually contains rather than assuming that every revision was included.

Keep dependencies and files in view

An article may depend on templates, Lua modules, categories and files. An XML page export does not by itself prove that those dependencies or file binaries have transferred. Record which pages, revisions and supporting files the export covers.

Reuse responsibly

Preserve contributor names, timestamps, edit summaries and applicable source and licence information. Keep a copy of the export before importing it elsewhere. Follow Project:Copyrights and Help:Import. Public export is not a substitute for an administrator's backup and restoration process.
