Elite Dangerous Wiki:Policies and guidelines
Policies and guidelines provides local editorial guidance for the independent Elite Dangerous Wiki. Apply it alongside community standards and existing local policies.
Local authority
Project:Policies lists this wiki's established rules. Project:Community standards provides its core editorial and conduct principles. Guidance pages explain practical application. An imported template, outside website or compatibility shortcut does not establish additional local authority.
Policies, guidelines and essays
Policies describe the rules listed in Project:Policies. Guidelines explain practical editing methods and allow judgement suited to the subject. Essays express advice or an author's view; they do not override policy. A category, shortcut or imported notice is not evidence that the community adopted a new rule.
This wiki combines the Elite Dangerous community's subject-specific rules with editorial practices adapted for a specialist game reference. Wikipedia is a reference for editing methods, not this wiki's governing organisation. Fandom's platform administration and discussion services do not govern this independent site.
Applying guidance
Use relevant evidence and common sense. This is a specialist game wiki: reproducible gameplay observations, game terminology and version-specific documentation need treatment suited to the subject. Keep the local rules on squadron eligibility, cheating, naming and shaming, conduct and spelling. Do not introduce another site's committees, warning levels, voting thresholds or automatic sanctions. Where Project:User Conduct Rules specifies an existing response period, consensus safeguard or block condition, that specific rule takes precedence over a general guidance summary.
Improvements
Discuss substantive changes on the affected policy's talk page, explain the problem and link related guidance. Keep the published wording consistent with actual local processes. Existing policy takes precedence over an informal example. See Project:Consensus and Project:Template index.
