Something is wrong with this description. Every time I enter a new system I use the built-in discovery scanner and it detects all bodies in the system, regardless of range.

Then in the Full Spectrum Scanner I can "find" all bodies (stars, planets, moons) by doing the tuning and zoom thing, again, regardless of range.

In my experience there's no limit to range for finding bodies. You can just honk a system upon arrival, then with a little FSS work you will have all the bodies discovered on your map.

The only time I need to get close to a body is when using the surface scanner on planets, moons, and rings.
