Yes you can! Thats the only upside to Star Citizen. You can walk and move around.
However, thats where the upsides to Star Citizen ends.
Travel times in Elite Dangerous? Reasonable.
Star Citizen? Around 15 minutes to go across a system.
That is unless you throw hundreds of sweet sweet dollar bills towards Chris Roberts, because then your quantum engine thingy improves with the better ship you get. I would be fine with this if it weren't pay to win.
Oh yeah, don't forget, in Star Citizen you only have access to one system. Stanton. Which means no exploration, no long haul missions or anything.
The career choices aren't that expansive in Star Citizen.
Passenger missions? Nope.
Mining? Its ok, but tedious.
Space trucker? (Its ok not gonna lie)
Exploration? Doesn't exist.
Bounty hunting? Not worth it in SC.
Delivery missions? They exist, but you are essentially nothing but a glorified space UPS driver.
Sure Elite Dangerous courier missions aren't really the most fun, but come on. It makes them decent at best, while in Star Citizen you spend more time binge watching youtube videos, and catching up on TV series while you wait a while for your ship to arrive at the location of your mission.
Space pirating? You can do it in both games, but in Elite Dangerous its arguably better. Sure in SC you can EVA into ships and attack ships on foot, which is pretty badass, but in Elite you actually interdict people from their travels and attack that way.
Sure both games have their problems, but Star Citizen right now is very limited in content. Its more like a tech demo then a game. Elite Dangerous has a content cycle. It has a progression system. There are factions, and there are different countries etc.
Its way more fleshed out, and its not pay to win.
If Elite Dangerous gets space legs, that will be an ultimate shift in the competition of Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous.
Just as a disclaimer, I don't want Star Citizen to fail. I want it to become a better game, and a playable game.
Hopefully if Elite Dangerous gets space legs, Chris Roberts can get off his ass and better manage the development of Star Citizen.
