One thing that I did not see mentioned on this page: engines!  When landing on a planet, take note of the gravity.  Lower-tier engines may not be able to get you back 1,000m or more so that you can engage your FSD, meaning you're totally stuck there, and they may also make it impossible for you to stop before slamming into the surface, often insta-killing your ship.

On this note, I want to point out that the Dolphin can mount Class 5 thrusters despite its miniscule weight.  This makes it far more suitable for landing on high gravity worlds than anything else on the "recommended ships" list above.  In addition, it is also the only ship listed that mounts a Class 4 FSD (besides the Hauler, which I believe has a Class 3 FSD) which means it will use far less fuel per jump than all the ships that require a Class 5 or 6 FSD.  In my case, I have mine outfitted with a Class 5 Guardian FSD Booster and a Class 4A Fuel Scoop, and it is still able to top off the tank faster than I can circle the star for the next jump, but of course you are free to lose 1.2ly if you'd prefer a Class 5 scoop.

Regardless of what ship you fly, just make sure you don't underrate your engines too hard.  There's no amount of AFMU repairs that will save you from an impact over 300m/s!
