As an American myself, allow me to respectfully critique your comment. A direct democracy would prove to be a horrbily ineffecient structure of government to command a superpower as populous as the Federation. Too many ideas for the government to properly heed or give any attention to at all. You also seem to contradict yourself when you first champion for a parliamentary democracy, then proceed to display your distaste for the idea of an archeic governmental structure to make up the body of a powerful intersteller nation. Both the principles of representitive and parliamentary democracies will be several centuries old by the time Elite takes place.
