Which do NPC Crew use better,in your experience: MCs or Plasma Repeaters?

In my own experience, I've noticed they just straight up shoot more with the Plasma Repeaters than they do with beam lasers.  I haven't tried giving the NPC Crew MCs to play with because I'm awful with fixed MCs myself, but I just switched to a Class 6 fighter bay so I'm wondering what to choose for my crew variant.
