Oookay guy... Personally I have never needed 2 AFMUs, though granted - my exploration trips are not multiple month business. Interestingly it still has repair limpets for hull damage. The other build's second surface scanner must be a placeholder for the discovery scanner. Maybe the guy doesn't believe it's gone for good.
