Also worth pointing out that the HUD is on your canopy. If the canopy breaks, you will lose your targeting reticles and supercruise orbit lines and object markers. This can be highly detrimental for CMDRs wishing to keep fighting before they go to repair, and even make it difficult to judge whether you will have enough time to get to your selected repair destination.

Once fully broken, a canopy cannot be fixed by self-repair tools.
