The game really started to develop when it allows you ways through the original first release grinding: reputation bonuses, more lucrative missions for higher elite ranks, etc.

Engineering just seemed to set it back I asked myself: do I really want to spend real hours driving across an empty landscape looking for rocks, only to go to an engineer and spend most of it on wasted rolls? The answer was: no.

I drool as much as anyone at the idea of improved shields or special weapons effects. But I'm just not willing to bore myself senseless to get them. That isn't what a game is supposed to be about.
