If you're going to go full real life science, the whole idea of ballistic weapons in space at all is stupid. There are things the size and weight of bullets flying around out there at 400 km/s. If a spacecraft's hull couldn't resist a tungsten armour piercing shell moving at some low multiple of the speed of sound here on Earth, then it shouldn't really be in space.
