You are not insane, I experienced the same thing actually with Painite (also an "Unavailable to purchase" commodity/metal with amazing selling price). I was trading in an area and once docked at my spaceport, went to the market and I saw a small supply (like 5) available to purchase... FYI I wasn't trading Painite at that station.

Was like "Heck...", I too don't really know what's about. I have a theory though : maybe for some reason as we were few other people trading and mining in the area (or at least selling stuff in that same station) a little of someone's (a player or npc?) sale ended into the "Supply" column of the market ... like some sort of bug where what you sell is just sold right back by the station itself? Don't know if this makes sense.

No source or precise calculation available whatsoever... that's more of a guess..
