Here are some tips from someone with 450 hrs of playtime:
1. Make sure to practice docking (one of the tutorials is good to do this in), as repeatedly crashing your ship will eat away at your savings if you are not using the free sidewinder with stock equipment.
2. Learn to adjust the power distribuitor and what situations call for what settings. Example: Putting all pips to shields when under fire will slightly more than double the amount of damage your shields can take before failing.
3. It is easier to learn combat with gimbaled weapons than fixed weapons
4. Make sure that you will always have enough fuel, as it would be a shame to lose your ship from lack of fuel
5. Bounty rewards, combat vouchers, and exploration data are lost on ship destruction. If you accumulate a large amount of credits owed you, make sure to turn the above in before you do something dangerous as you could lose all your hard work
6. Beware of flying into asteriods in resource extraction sites (planetary rings), as many of the ships that cost less than 4 million credits will instantly explode if you hit one at moderate to high speeds. On this note, do not fly in areas with asteriods when there is little light in these regions, as your ship lights will usually only light up an asteroid just in time for you to see what is going to kill you before you can avoid them.
7. Solo mode and private groups that do not allow PvP are great if you don't like people killing you just because they find it fun to pick on newbies.
8. The dice looking Coreallis station's docking port can be hard to find. If you target select the station, the holographic representation that is opposite your ship's hologram will show arrows on the sides pointing to the side that has the docking port.
Hope these help to start. Make sure to check this wiki and the official frontier forums as both contain alot of infomation that is useful to new and veteran players
