Template:Uw-lead
Please take care when editing the lead section of an article, as you did at Article name. The lead section should summarize the most important points of the article, and be able to stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic. The first sentence should introduce the topic clearly and concisely, in plain English, without being overloaded with detail.
If you think the lead needs attention, please check whether the body of the article needs to be updated first. The lead should summarize the article, not introduce new or unique information or claims that are absent from or inconsistent with the body. If the body needs changes, make those changes first, adding reliable sources, and then revise the lead afterward to reflect the article's updated content (there's no need to repeat the citation in the lead). This helps ensure that the lead and body remain consistent and that the lead gives an appropriate overview of the subject. For further guidance, please see the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. Thank you.

This template may be placed on a user's talk page to remind them of the guidance on lead sections, in particular that the lead summarizes the body. New users often edit the lead first as it's the first thing they see, but the principle is valid for all users.
| This template should always be substituted – use {{subst:Uw-lead}}. Any accidental transclusions will be automatically substituted by a bot. |
Usage
{{subst:Uw-lead}}{{subst:Uw-lead|Article}}references a specific article{{subst:Uw-lead|Article|Additional text}}adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you"{{subst:Uw-lead||Additional text}}or{{subst:Uw-lead|2=Additional text}}also adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you", but doesn't link a page as specified by the article.- It is advisable to include param 1 to specify the article where the lead was edited.
Please remember to substitute the template using {{subst:Uw-lead}} rather than {{Uw-lead}}.
To customize your message, parameters are available; one to add the article name, and one to add additional text at the end of the message. If your param value contains an equal sign (as urls often do), then be sure to explicitly specify the positional parameter by number; i.e., use |1= or |2= followed by the value; e.g., |1=XYZ=Repainting, or |2=https://www.bbc.com/search?q=Kent+weather.
