An import brings page text and revision metadata into this wiki. Only accounts or maintenance processes with the necessary configured permission can run an import. See Special:ListGroupRights and Project:Requests for permissions.

Prepare the input

Identify the source, scope and licence. Prefer a MediaWiki XML export that includes the required revision metadata. Keep the source export and an inventory of page titles. Distinguish current-content imports from historical backfill and file-binary transfers; completing one does not complete the others.

Preserve existing work

Check whether destination pages already exist or contain local edits. Test a small sample before a bulk operation, preserve contributor attribution and avoid overwriting local changes. Check templates and module dependencies as well as article text. Imported policy pages require adaptation to this independent wiki.

Verify the result

An administrator may use Special:Import where available or an approved server-side maintenance process. After import, check the page history, current displayed content, sources and representative rendered pages. Media binaries need their own transfer and verification. Do not paste an XML dump into an ordinary edit form or assume that a success message proves a complete migration. See Help:Export and Project:Copyrights.
