The Ministry of Planetary-Defence (MoPD or MOPD) is an intergalactic ministry of defence responsible for implementing the defence policy set by His/Her Majesty's Government, with human well being as the primary objective. The MoPD is headquartered in SOL System, on the planet Earth in a city which has been historically important to human civilisation, named London, in what was once known as the United Kingdom.
About
Although the Ministry of Planetary-Defence is based in and managed by the United Kingdom (an Earth based nation), it is sometimes considered rebellious to the Federation. The MoPD understands that with human well-being and civilisation at heart, there are many friends throughout the galaxy, but remains intent that the federation will never fully succeed the United Kingdom. The MoPD recognises that the Federation, Empire and Alliance are extremely powerful, however it also has a sizeable organisation, composed of a several large fleets; including military, exploration, medical, transportation and scientific vessels.
Objective & Responsibilities
The MoPD is interested in protecting the right's of the human race from unknown threats - such as foreign navy fleets, alien biological, chemical, electronic and otherwise mass destructive threats. It does this from its several compounds based on Earth, and large research ships deployed throughout the galaxy. Notably the historic Porton Down military science park, the HMS Victory military research and intelligence ship, Westminster and many other sites (both classified and historic).
The MoPD also has strong interests to keep the United Kingdom independent from the Federation, Empire, Alliance and any other superpower. While many nations, planets and organisations have argued that capitulating to the factions helps by coming together, the UK remains firm in its stance that remaining in its historically independent state gives the people a strong identity, and keeping the culture alive is important. There are several known defence strategies in place, to protect against major factions and superpower interference.
The MoPD is quoted saying:
"The MoPD's number one priority at present is research and preparation for an invasion from forces unknown. To undertake this mission, MoPD armed forces operate galaxy-wide - exploring, training, researching and finding ways to further better our defensive mechanisms, enabling us to effectively plan, strike and defend in the case of an invasion into human controlled space."
