Usage

1. Search on eol.org for the subject you want.
2. Click on the correct link to go to the subject's page.
3. The page URL should look like https://eol.org/pages/#######, where "#######" indicates a number.
4. Copy ONLY that number
5. Add that number to the corresponding Wikidata item, using (P830).
6. Add to the external links section the text (and it will pull the information from Wikidata):

* {{Encyclopedia of Life link}}

Alternatively:

Add to the external links section the text:

* {{Encyclopedia of Life link|id|label}}

where "id" is the number you've copied, and "label" is the full title of the EOL article, for example: Pogonomyrmex anergismus

This template supports the |access-date= parameter, like all of the {cite ...} templates. Use it if you like.

Example

1. Search for Nicrophorus americanus on eol.org. You'll get to this page: https://eol.org/pages/1044544
2. Copy "1044544" and add this number as the first parameter, then copy "Nicrophorus americanus" and add it as the second parameter:

{{Encyclopedia of Life link|1044544|''Nicrophorus americanus''}}

The result on the page Nicrophorus americanus is:

"Nicrophorus americanus". The Encyclopedia of Life.

Typically this is a list item in the external links section (even if there is only one link), so you should add "*" in front: * {{Encyclopedia of Life link|1044544|''Nicrophorus americanus''}}
