I want to like this ship, but I am failing to see how it rises above the FDL in any meaningful way - everything about it is similar, except that it is decently faster, but doesn't maneuver as well. It looks cool, I suppose, but even for the single role it is well-suited to fill, combat, the FDL is more efficient, as staying on target while dealing damage will obviously end battles more quickly than burst jousting. There's also the heat issue, which can be managed, but somewhat limits what weapons the ship is able to fit.
Often, I can forgive a ship for not being the best at a single role if it at least feels distinct, but there's just not enough difference here other than looks, as the internals are practically the same as well. The lack of discussion around the ship on the official forums seems to lend credence to my feeling that the Mamba is pretty much filler. I wanted more ZP ships, but not like this.
If anyone has found a substantial niche for the Mamba to fill, I'm all ears. I just want something, something, that justifies its existence.
