Elite Dangerous Wiki:Verifiability

From Elite Dangerous Wiki

Verifiability provides local editorial guidance for the independent Elite Dangerous Wiki. Apply it alongside community standards and existing local policies.

Evidence for claims

Readers should be able to check factual statements against an identifiable source. Cite the source beside the claim, especially for disputed information, statistics and announced changes. Give enough detail to find the same passage, game version or announcement again. Do not cite another wiki merely because it repeats the statement.

Game-specific evidence

Frontier announcements, GalNet, game text, patch notes and published developer explanations are appropriate primary sources for what they actually say. Record the date and version for changing mechanics. Clearly labelled, reproducible observations may document gameplay, but a single observation does not establish a universal rule or hidden mechanic. Distinguish estimates from confirmed values.

When evidence is missing

Correct an obvious error directly. Otherwise identify the unsupported claim, request a source and explain the issue on the talk page. Remove harmful unsupported claims about real people promptly. See Project:Reliable sources and Project:Citing sources.
