The Discovery Scanner is a unit that fits inside of a internal compartment and allows you to scan for unknown astronautical objects within your area. The usefulness is debatable at this point, as finding a planet and its moons by eye is not hard. This object is given inside the Sidewinder you start with as of Beta 2.04.
