Republic of Achenar

Template:Superpowerinfobox The Republic of Achenar was an independent democratic republic that was founded by Marlin Duval in the Achenar system in 2292. An idealistic vision of an alternative to the Federation, the Republic was governed by elected senators who represented the people. Following the death of Marlin Duval in an apparent speeder crash in 2296, however, her brother Henson Duval assumed control of the Republic's ruling council and began restructuring it into the Empire. Centuries after the short-lived Republic faded into history, its ideals persisted in the form of Marlinism, which advocated abolishing the Empire's monarchy and restoring the Republic's form of government in its place.

History

The wealthy, outspoken anti-Federation activist Marlin Duval left Federal space with her family and colonists due to her disenfranchisement with the increasing rigidity of the Earth governments and stifling social conformity. In the middle of the 23rd century she lead the colonization of the habitable moon Achenar 6d in the Achenar system. It's an outdoor world with a human-breathable atmosphere and indigenous sapient species.

The colony was based on peaceful ideals. It flourished so an administrative council was formed headed by Marlin Duval. The purpose was to fairly distribute power throughout the colony. The council expanded in accordance with the colony's growth. She held an influential position in the council. There were elected senators who represented the people and a council of high-ranking politicians which acted as an executive body for the republic.

In 2296, Marlin Duval perished in a shuttle accident with her partner and children. Her brother Henson Duval assumed control of the ruling council in the senate of the Republic of Achenar. He disbanded it and replaced his sister's egalitarianism and pacifism with jingoism and authoritarianism while also fanning anti-Federation sentiment. This transformed the Republic of Achenar into the Empire. Henson also used his popularity and autocratic control of Achenar's government to declare that control of the colony and any associated systems would be hereditary and pass from father to son. Henson was crowned the first Emperor in 2320. Achenar 6d was renamed Capitol and became the heart of a galactic empire that would grow to rival the Federation in size and influence.
