Republic of Achenar
The Republic of Achenar was an independent democratic republic with elected senators who represented the people. It was founded by Marlin Duval based on peaceful ideals in the mid 23rd century. This is the predecessor of the Empire.[1]
History
The wealthy, outspoken anti-Federation activist Marlin Duval left Federal space with her family and colonists due to her disenfranchisement with the increasing rigidity of the Earth governments and stifling social conformity.[1] In the middle of the 23rd century she lead the colonization of the habitable moon Achenar 6d in the Achenar system. It's an outdoor world with a human-breathable atmosphere and indigenous sapient species.[2]
The colony was based on peaceful ideals. It flourished so an administrative council was formed headed by Marlin Duval. The purpose was to fairly distribute power throughout the colony. The council expanded in accordance with the colony's growth. She held an influential position in the council. There were elected senators who represented the people and a council of high-ranking politicians which acted as an executive body for the republic.[1]
In 2296 Marlin Duval perished in a shuttle accident with her partner and children. Her brother Henson Duval assumed control of the ruling council in the senate of the Republic of Achenar. He disbanded it and replaced his sister's egalitarianism and pacifism with jingoism and authoritarianism while also fanning anti-Federation sentiment.[3] In 2314 Henson used his popularity and autocratic control of Achenar's government to declare that control of the colony and any associated systems would be hereditary and pass from father to son. This declaration transformed the Republic of Achenar into the Empire. Henson was crowned Emperor in 2320.[3] Achenar 6d was renamed Capitol and it became the heart of a galactic empire.
