The Occupied Escape Pod can be found within Salvageable Wreckage signatures and in Points of Interest on the surfaces of planets and moons. Salvaging it is legal.
It can be turned in at the Search and Rescue Agents of starports which usually grants a small reward or sold to the black market for more Credits.
Bulletin Boards in surface ports sometimes give missions to retrieve Occupied Escape Pods.
