The Discovery Scanner is a unit that fits inside of a internal compartment and allows you to scan for unknown astronautical objects within your area.

This module is extremely useful in "busy" areas of a system as locating all of the astronautical objects in a given area where there are many is extremely difficult due to the objects getting lost within the backdrop of space.

This object is given inside the Sidewinder you start with as of Beta 2.04. Update 3.03 with a Type 6 Lakon. Intermediat escanner

There are 3 Levels of Discovery Scanners:

  • Basic Discovery Scanner with 0.16~Ls range worth 1000CR
  • Intermediate Discovery Scanner with 2.5~5.0Ls range worth 500'000CR
  • Advanced Discovery Scanner with ???Ls range worth 1'500'000CR

Usage

Beta 3.03 Scanning at present may depend on size of objects. But i not getting range more than 2.5~5.0Ls for discovering Ross 130C.

I noted that you can just fly between the center of moons and discover all in one go. But the range same a lot less than 400Ls with an Intermediat scanner

The Discovery Scanner must be assigned to a firegroup. The assigned control to trigger the scanner must be held down to charge the unit. It will tell you when its scan is complete.

The Basic Discovery Scanner also seems to have an effective range of 400Ls, so multiple scans from different areas of a system are advisable.

The Advanced Discovery Scanner appears to have an extremely large range as it has been proven to be able to detect objects from 125,000 ls away (Alderamin). This allows for the mapping of a whole solar system in 1 pass.
