Credits are the Elite: Dangerous universal currency. Everything bought and sold, or paid for, is in credits, or CR (abbreviation).
You can check the total amount (balance) of credits you have accrued by viewing the STATUS menu of the right hand panel in your ship, or in Starport Services when you're docked at a station.
