The PC version was released on May 19, 2021. Frontier Developments CEO David Braben personally responded to the rocky launch of ''Odyssey'' in two posts on the Frontier Forums:<ref>[https://www.pcgamer.com/frontier-ceo-apologises-wholeheartedly-for-shoddy-elite-dangerous-odyssey-launch/ Frontier CEO apologises wholeheartedly for shoddy Elite Dangerous Odyssey launch]</ref>
There are several issues (such as performance, bugged planet surface generationterrain, random POIs in space), but the game is not broken.<ref>[https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/npcz7y/what_obsidian_ants_video_gets_right_and_this/ What Obsidian Ant's Video Gets Right, and this community gets wrong.] </ref> Frontier released 3 hotfixes, a [https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-odyssey-update-1.578613/ major patch (May 27, 2021)] with a long patch log, and a client upgrade within the first week. This drastically improved stability, server issues and smoothed the game which made it fairly playable. The framerate increased on-foot and in ships. They're continuing to work on fixes and accept feedback for improvements such as [https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/odyssey-optimisation-performance-and-ui-galaxy-system-map-feedback.578093/ Optimisation/Performance and UI (Galaxy & System Map) Feedback].<ref>[https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/odyssey-optimisation-performance-and-ui-galaxy-system-map-feedback.578093/ Optimisation/Performance and UI Feedback]</ref>
