The PC version was released on May 19, 2021. Frontier Developments CEO David Braben personally responded to the rocky launch of ''Odyssey'' in two posts on the Frontier Forums:<ref>[https://www.pcgamer.com/frontier-ceo-apologises-wholeheartedly-for-shoddy-elite-dangerous-odyssey-launch/ Frontier CEO apologises wholeheartedly for shoddy Elite Dangerous Odyssey launch]</ref>
Frontier released 3 hotfixes, a [https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-odyssey-update-1.578613/ major patch (May 27, 2021)], and a client upgrade within the first week. This improved stability and smoothed the game which made it fairly playable. The framerate improved on-foot and in ships. They're continuing to work on fixes and accept feedback for improvements such as [https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/odyssey-optimisation-performance-and-ui-galaxy-system-map-feedback.578093/ Optimisation/Performance and UI (Galaxy & System Map) Feedback].<ref>[https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/odyssey-optimisation-performance-and-ui-galaxy-system-map-feedback.578093/ Optimisation/Performance and UI Feedback]</ref>
