A Surface Outpost is a planetary or lunar outpost with open docking facilities for ships and SRVs. They range in size from small settlements to larger, semi-enclosed cities, and can be located with the planetary map of a landable body. Various services and exclusive mission types are available. Some Surface Outposts offer exclusive Commodities that cannot be procured elsewhere. Local security forces utilize both ships and Skimmers.
Surface Outposts differ from settlements in that Surface Outposts can be docked at. Surface Outposts are identifiable in the Navigation pane as having an icon three buildings: one small, one medium, and one large. Settlements have an icon with just two buildings and an antenna.
== How to use Outposts ==
Outposts are ground based equivalents of (orbital) outposts. When in a ship you should treat them exactly the same. You’ll need to request docking, and should refrain from committing crimes if you want to stay safe and welcome![1]
When in your SRV, if your ship is docked at a planetary outpost, you’ll need to request docking to get back to it. After docking has been approved, follow the nav-compass – it will lead you to a nearby garage.
Once in the garage, you can use the role switch interface to board your ship.
Be aware: if your ship is docked at a outpost, you cannot recall it to your location if you are within a few kilometers. You will need to move further away from the outpost or request docking to get back to your ship.
