The Orca is a large ship manufactured by Saud Kruger and is currently one of three known passenger ships, the others being the as of yet unreleased Dolphin and Beluga Liner.

In the current game (v2.02) there is not much difference between a passenger ship and other ships except for the sleek and fashionable design, long windows, and luxurious interior. As a result, it does not currently see much use by players.

It handles far better than its official maneuverability rating might indicate, with a remarkably high turn rate combined with high acceleration, and even--unlike the Imperial Clipper, with similar maneuverability--a very powerful strafing ability. Its very weak shields, even weaker than those of the Clipper, combined with its large silhouette (easy target) hinder (but do not entirely prevent) attempts to use it as a serious combat ship, but fully geared and in skilled hands it makes for an extremely hard target or dangerously effective pirate.

Notes

  • Initially decals could not be fitted. Now they can and even some basic paint jobs are available (Vibrant pack, Tactical pack, and Military pack)
  • The Orca is the only ship in game that cannot fit a optimal sized shield. It requires a size 6 for optimal, but can only take a size 5 in one of the size 5 slots.
  • The Orca sells for a 20% discount at Irkutsk in the Alioth system. (As Alioth is the political center of the Alliance, a system permit is required. Places to get such a permit include Rominger Dock in the 78 Ursae Majoris system. Look for the "Making Friends And Going Places" job on the Bulletin Board.)
  • A 'fasten seatbelt' tone will sound in the cabin when using this ship's boost.
  • According to the Newsletter #84, with 0.016% of players piloting it the Orca is the least popular ship in the game.
