A Checkpoint is a type of signal source found in systems experiencing the Outbreak (and possibly Civil War) state. They usually contain a number of security vessels aligned with the system's current controlling faction. These security vessels are initially non-hostile and will only scan ships that pass through the area unless they are attacked.

The Checkpoints usually contain one Type-9 called Evidence Locker, and the rest of the ships are all Eagles or Viper MkIIIs. All ships are Lawless and range in rank from Master to Elite. Once one or two ships are destroyed, new Eagle and Vipers will jump right back in.
Attacking any one of the ships will not turn the other ships hostile (unless they happen to be in a Wing together). However, beware that after killing a few ships, sometimes the new ships that jump in will be immediately hostile to you, so pay close attention to avoid fighting too many at once time.
Because of the quick time-to-kill of the smaller ships, the fact that they are relatively high rank, and that they will continuously jump in after previous ships have been destroyed, Checkpoints can be used to gain combat rank quickly. The main difficulty lies in finding a Checkpoint, since not all Outbreak systems contain Checkpoints.
