This guide explains how to use templates on the Elite Dangerous Wiki. Templates insert reusable content using double braces, such as {{Refimprove}}.
- Wikipedia-style template index — browse template examples by purpose and namespace.
- Article notices — when to flag missing citations, examples and placement.
- Article structure and references — links to main articles, quotations and reference lists.
- Ship infoboxes — how to add or update the ship information panel.
- Browse all template pages — the live alphabetical directory, including templates imported since this guide was written.
- Existing template list — the earlier community-maintained list.
Before adding a template
- Open its template page and its
/docsubpage, if available, to check its parameters and any restrictions. - Use a notice only when the article actually has the problem described. If you can fix the problem directly, do that instead.
- Use preview before publishing. Make sure the result is readable and the links work; remove unused example parameters.
- Some Wikipedia templates and dependencies are still being imported or checked for compatibility. An entry in the alphabetical directory does not by itself mean the template has been tested or documented on this wiki. Report a broken example on its talk page.
The organisation of this guide is informed by Wikipedia's template index. The working examples below use this wiki's actual templates, which can differ from Wikipedia and Fandom.
