Revision as of 12:05, 26 September 2024

The Mandalay is an upcoming medium explorer ship by Zorgon Peterson.

According to the developers, the Mandalay should outperform the Anaconda in terms of jump range.[1] The ship is also optimized for SCO-capable frame shift drives; compared to the previous SCO-optimized ships, the Python Mk II and the Type-8 Transporter, the Mandalay will have a lower overall top speed in SCO, but will be far more fuel efficient and easier to control.[1]

The boarding ramp is under the cockpit which makes it easier to line up the landing for exobiological scanning.

The early access release is scheduled for the 22nd of October 2024.

Development

A concept artwork of this ship was first shown on X (Twitter) on 10 August 2024.[2] The design is influenced by the English Electric Lightning interceptor aircraft from 1960 which has stacked engines.[3]

Trivia

The Mandalay is named after a species of spitting cobra native to the country of Myanmar.[4]
