The Cargo Scoop is a standard piece of equipment which is mounted to every ship. It allows for the collection of Cargo Canisters and other materials that are floating in space. Deploying the cargo scoop and targeting a valid scoopable object will cause the target hologram to be replaced with a scoop helper interface. A deployed cargo scoop will draw 0.60 MW of power from the ship's reactor - this value can be viewed in the power manage panel as "H1 Cargo Hatch". Once collected any canisters will be deposited into Cargo Racks while raw materials will be deposited into a Refinery; if the corresponding module is not available (full or not installed) the target will not be collected.

How to Scoop Cargo
Usage
This is a core module, meaning it cannot be removed by the owner. To open the scoop, press the Home button or the corresponding button that you selected in the Controls setting. When you open the hatch and target a canister, the target hologram will be replaced by a scoop helper interface.

# Press the corresponding button. Default: Home
To scoop a cargo, make sure the scoop is open, target a canister. There is a canister icon on the interface. Centre the icon and set your speed to 40 m/s or lower. Canister is quite vulnerable, and a plunge to a canister will destroy them or severely damage them. The icon will getting bigger when you approach it. When you opened your scoop, set your speed to 40 m/s and centre the icon, continue to travel in straight line until the distance to the canister fall below 5m, which it will automatically scoop the canister.
# Position the ship so that target cargo is centered in the scoop helper interface.
# Fly towards the cargo, ensuring that the representation of the canister remains centered in the crosshairs.
# Reduce speed until movement lines in the scoop helper interface are blue. Failure to correctly align or reduce speed may damage your ship and/or your cargo.
# You must be at 5m or less from the cargo and it will be picked up by itself

Cargo can be jettisoned in the Inventory menu (press 4). Select a cargo and choose to jettison or abandon it, you can adjust how many cargo you need to jettison by press Page Right to increase number and Page Left to decrease. This feature works in normal space and Supercruise. Just simply choose to "jettison" this cargo will make the scoop eject the canister, and anyone collect this cargo will mark it as stolen and will be fined if detected. Owner of this cargo will retain ownership when re-scoop it. Abandon this cargo will eject this cargo and no longer retain ownership. Anyone can collect this cargo without consequences and sell it on the shop. Jettison a cargo near a station is considered illegal and will be fined. A cargo can be discarded when docked on a station, however please note that the cargo will be destroyed and permanently unscoopable. Cargo cannot be jettisoned when the scoop is not open, it is a haulage cargo and of course, when traveling in Hyperspace.
The cargo scoop is shown as Cargo Hatch on the ship module list and it is a common practice to move it into the last module priority group or to turn it off completely to free up some energy (if one does not need to be scooping cargo with hardpoints deployed). This can be especially useful for small combat ships, such as the Eagle or Viper, with 0.6 MW being a significant percentage of these ship's power plant output. Turning off power to the cargo hatch prevents deployment of the cargo scoop and opening of the cargo hatch door. It does not damage or affect any cargo stored in the cargo racks, nor does it cause the hatch to open and cargo to spill out of the ship.

Malfunctions
The Cargo Scoop have a limited cargo capacity, meaning it can only contains finite canisters. Once the canisters has filled the whole Cargo Rack, other cargo will no longer scoopable until the canisters has cleared. Each ship have a different cargo capacity. The Cargo Rack can be upgraded to increase the maximum capacity. Players can also outfit their ship with multiple Cargo Racks. Transporting a Thargoid canister is unsafe and will corrode modules over time, so an Anti-Corrosion Cargo Rack is advised to safely transport Thargoid canisters.
If the Cargo Scoop is powered and significantly damaged, then it can malfunction by randomly opening and closing without an actual order to open or close. This malfunction can cause the Cargo Scoop to open during supercruise, causing an emergency drop from supercruise (since the Cargo Scoop being open is incompatible with supercruise).

It is unknown if unpowering the Cargo Scoop prevents these malfunctions. It is unknown if these malfunctions only start below a certain Integrity threshold (such as 80%).
Cargo Scoop is quite useless, and draw 0.6 MW, so it can be turned off to manage some power. Turning off the scoop does not damage cargo or automatically jettison cargo. A canister can be added to the ignore list to simply 'ignore' them, making them invisible on radar and will not shows a scoop helper interface. A Collector Limpet Controller is used to collect nearby canisters and add it to the rack, make sure your scoop is open. If the scoop is closed when the limpet is collecting, it will experience 'programming issues' and therefore will not collect anymore, even when the scoop is opened after the limpet stop working.

Cargo Scoop is quite vulnerable and can be malfunctioned. If this module experience a malfunction when it is active (by decrease the scoop's health to 85% or less), it will jettison cargo every malfunction, so it is recommended to take care of the scoop when carrying vaulable canisters on the rack.

There is some manufactured materials canisters that can be picked up by a cargo scoop normally. However, it cannot be jettisoned by its owner and it can be only removed from Synthesis or Engineers. There is also Encoded Materials that can only avaliable when scanning ships or various structures, complete missions and more. It is not a canister because it is a piece of data and also cannot be jettisoned. Raw Materials are not a canister, it is actually a fragment. Raw Materials need a Refinery refine it to a sellable cargo. Without a Refinery, Raw Materials is unscoopable. Like other canisterd, it can be jettisoned.
