Over the course of the alpha, ''Odyssey'' features will bewere introduced incrementally in order to focus community feedback.<ref name="Delay2" />

**During the first phase of the alpha, all participants arewere given a fresh commander profile and beginbegan at Armstrong's Legacy in the Adityan system. Players arewere restricted to Adityan for this phase to maximise player interaction and stress-test the game's network.

**The [[Maverick Suit]], and [[Kinematic Armaments]] and [[Takada]] weapons cancould be purchased.

**Players dodid not have access to ships, but cancould travel using [[Apex Interstellar Transport]] to reach groundside mission locations.

**Salvage and collection/delivery missions arewere available.

**The starting point of the alpha iswas moved to the Nervi system.

**A 20ly bubble of space surrounding Adityan, which includesincluded Nervi, iswas opened up for interstellar travel, and players can nowcould purchase [[ships]]. All players arewere granted a [[Cobra MkIII]] to start with.

**The [[Dominator Suit]] cancould be purchased.

**Faction conflicts arewere enabled and combat missions at [[Conflict Zone]]s arewere available through [[Frontline Solutions]].

**Several fixes and improvements based on Phase 1 feedback arewere added.

**The bubble of playable space iswas expanded to 50ly, allowing players to visit unexplored planets and test the "Visited By" discovery mechanic.

**The [[Artemis Suit]] cancould be purchased.

**The [[Genetic Sampler]] tool iswas enabled, allowing [[Exobiologist|exobiology]] gameplay.

**A snapshot of players' main commander profiles taken on April 23, 2021 iswas added to the alpha. Players havehad access to their owned ships and funds. Normal ship transfer costs and wait times are alsowere reduced so players cancould transfer their ships into the playable 50ly zone.

**All base game features arewere enabled to test their compatibility with ''Odyssey'' features. [[Drake-Class Carrier|Fleet Carriers]] arewere enabled belatedly on April 30.

*Due to the addition of first-person shooter gameplay in ''Odyssey'', it was given a higher age restriction rating than the ''Elite Dangerous'' base game by the PEGI.
