A mycoid storage tank

Mycoid is a bioweapon that was developed by the Intergalactic Naval Reserve Arm to repel the first Thargoid invasion in the mid-3100's.

History

The substance later named "mycoid" was created by a junior researcher at INRA's Hollis Gateway facility who specialized in agricultural science. He experimented on recovered Thargoid technology at a secret INRA base called Hollis Gateway in the Hermitage system, hoping to find an agricultural application for the tech, but accidentally discovered that a certain type of fungus could damage it.[1] This fungus became the basis for "Project Mycoid", the development and production of mycoid at other INRA facilities.

Rediscovered INRA bases feature large, corroded storage tanks marked "Warning: Mycohazard" that have leaked a reddish-brown organic substance, presumably the mycoid itself. The recently identified wreckage of a Thargoid Scout was found to have been contaminated by mycoid particles and also exhibits reddish-brown discoloration on its hull, strong evidence that the mycoid was successfully deployed against the Thargoids as intended.
