Mycoid: Difference between revisions

m Clockpuncher moved page Mycoid Virus to Mycoid: Not yet identified as a virus (also, a fungus and a virus are two separate things by definition anyway, so the original Elite writers jumped the shark)

Mycoid is a bioweapon that was developed by the Intergalactic Naval Reserve Arm to repel the first Thargoid invasion in the mid-3100's.

The biological agent could incapacitate Thargoid technology. It was created by a junior researcher specialized in agricultural science. He researched the recovered Thargoid technology at a secret INRA base called Hollis Gateway (Hermitage system, planet 4 A, coordinates: -53.7 // 157.6).
History
The substance later named "mycoid" was created by a junior researcher at INRA's Hollis Gateway facility who specialized in agricultural science. He experimented on recovered Thargoid technology at a secret INRA base called Hollis Gateway in the Hermitage system, hoping to find an agricultural application for the tech, but accidentally discovered that a certain type of fungus could damage it. This fungus became the basis for "Project Mycoid", the development and production of mycoid at other INRA facilities.

The abandoned base features large storage tanks with presumably the Mycoid virus. A corroded substance is spilled all over the place. The ancient wreckage of a Thargoid Scout has a similar corroded substance on its hull. This could be evidence that the Mycoid virus incapacitated their ships.
Rediscovered INRA bases feature large, corroded storage tanks marked "Warning: Mycohazard" that have leaked a reddish-brown organic substance, presumably the mycoid itself. The recently identified wreckage of a Thargoid Scout was found to have been contaminated by mycoid particles and also exhibits reddish-brown discoloration on its hull, strong evidence that the mycoid was successfully deployed against the Thargoids as intended.
