The Anaconda is a large ship produced by Faulcon DeLacy. A ponderous yet highly versatile vessel that excels in multiple roles, the Anaconda was originally produced by RimLiner Galactic and debuted in 2856. It's one of the most iconic vessels since the original debuted in Elite (1984). |
== History == |
At a base cost of almost 147 million credits, the Anaconda used to be the most expensive ship in Elite Dangerous, until the Federal Corvette and the Imperial Cutter took that title when they were added. It is a slow but enormous vessel that excels in all roles: combat, exploration and trading, and was the pinnacle of a late game ship. As it stands the Anaconda is now the third most expensive ship, but it doesn't have any rank requirements with the Federation or the Empire associated with it and is therefore easier to acquire than the Federal Corvette or the Imperial Cutter. Of the ships able to be piloted by a player in the game, the Anaconda is currently the fifth largest in volume and the fourth longest, being surpassed in length and volume by the Beluga Liner, Imperial Cutter and Federal Corvette (in that order), and in volume by the Type-9 Heavy. |
The Anaconda was first produced by RimLiner Galactic and debuted in 2856. It's also one of the most iconic vessels of Elite (1984). The blueprint eventually came into Faulcon DeLacy's possession after several mergers. Only minor changes were made to the classic design. |
=== The Big Three === |
The ship's bridge is located on the top of the ship roughly at its midpoint. The pilot's station is positioned at the center of the bridge, with 2 copilot seats on either side (currently they are for cosmetic only). The bridge features an open design, providing great viewing angles both up and to the sides from the horizontal position from the pilot's point of view. However the ship's nose obstructs view underneath the ship, which makes docking somewhat difficult. In a combat scenario 2 large hardpoints and 2 utility mounts are deployed directly in front of the bridge, which can distract the pilot's view when they fire. |
It was considered by the independent pilot community as one of "The Big Three". It was the third, most expensive ship on the market behind the Federal Corvette and the Imperial Cutter. However, the release of the Panther Clipper Mk II and Caspian Explorer moved it to fifth place. The Federal Corvette is specialized for combat, the Imperial Cutter is a multirole ship with exceptional cargo capacity, while the Anaconda is a jack-of-all-trades. It's competitively adaptable for combat, mining, trading, or exploration. The Anaconda serves as a light cruiser or frigate in some navies. It has one of the highest potential jump ranges after engineering, making it a popular choice for long-distance journeys. DeLacy launched the reimagined successor, Anaconda Mk II, on 20 October 3312. |
== Overview == |
Boasting an array of weapon hardpoints, this ship is a formidable combat ship capable of holding its own against multiple opponents. It, the Fer-de-Lance, the Federal Corvette, and the Imperial Cutter are the only ships capable of equipping the powerful Class 4 weaponry. The weapon hardpoint locations are as follows: Two Class 3 Large hardpoints top mounted side-by-side to each other in front of the cockpit and about 1/3 the ship length back from the front tip with slightly blocked aft line of sight. One Class 2 Medium hardpoint side mounted on each side near the front tip of the ship (2x Class 2 medium hardpoints total) with decent lines of sight. One Class 3 Large hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship, near the tip of the ship, with somewhat blocked aft line of sight. One Class 4 Huge hardpoint mounted on the underside of the ship at about 1/3 of the ship length back from the front tip, mounted slightly lower than the underside class 3 hardpoint, with nearly uninterrupted forward and below lines of sight and somewhat blocked aft lines of sight. Two Class 1 Small hardpoints mounted on the underside of the ship, side-by-side to each other, at the very back of the large rectangular Cargo bay shaped area, with nearly uninterrupted lines of sight in all underside directions but have limited firing arc convergence with the top mounted class 3 large hardpoints, namely in front of the ship. Overall the Anaconda is one of the most heavily armed ships in Elite Dangerous, however players may struggle to utilize this effectively because of its lack of maneuverability and power control problems when high level modules are installed. Also of note is that the Anaconda is currently one of the three ships with 8 Utility Hardpoints. As of the release of Horizons: Guardians it became one of the 7 ships compatible with hangar bay for docking ship launched fighters. |
The Anaconda offers a highly generalized hull and internal layout, which allows it to be adapted for a wide variety of roles, including exploration, trading, mining, and combat operations. |
The Anaconda has a class 6 internal module slot for the frame shift drive, which allows it to achieve high jump range albeit at the cost of high fuel consumption due to its high mass. It has a large number of internal compartments to accommodate the various modules needed for exploration such as scanners and fuel scoop. As such it is a popular choice for explorers, provided they can afford the hefty cost. |
The vessel is equipped with a total of eight Hardpoints. A single Huge hardpoint is located on the ventral side of the hull, positioned alongside one Large hardpoint. The two Small hardpoints are also on the ventral side, but further back. Two additional Large hardpoints are situated on the dorsal hull, while two Medium hardpoints are mounted on the port and starboard sides. Additionally, the Anaconda possesses eight utility mounts and it supports the installation of a Fighter Hangar to deploy Ship-Launched Fighters. |
The Anaconda's bridge is located on the top of the ship roughly at its midpoint. The pilot's seat is positioned in the centre of the bridge, with one co-pilot seat to the right and two more on the left. The canopy offers a wide horizontal field of view (more than 180 degrees), however the canopy's widths are tapered off to either side, limiting vertical field of view. The ship's nose also obstructs the view underneath the ship. In a combat scenario, two Class 3 hardpoints and two utility mounts are deployed directly in front of the bridge, which can obstruct the pilot's view when they fire. Turreted weapons have special mounts that will obscure your view further. |
Some wealthy traders also make use of this ship due to its high jump range, enormous cargo capacity (up to 468T of cargo, a figure surpassed only by the Lakon Type-9 Heavy, the Federal Corvette, and the Imperial Cutter), and superb defensive capabilities. |
A defining characteristic of the Anaconda is its notably low base hull mass relative to its overall size. This structural trait, when combined with specific modules and engineering selections, affords it one of the highest potential jump ranges of any ship, making it a prominent choice for deep-space exploration and long-haul travel. Its bulk restricts it to large landing pads however, and has low manoeuvrability in both normal space flight and supercruise. |
Overall the Anaconda is ideal for veteran pilots of all trades who have a large sum of credits at their disposal but don't have high rankings with either of the superpowers. The only downsides of the ship are its sub par speed and maneuverability due to its size, as well as the cost to upgrade and maintain the ship: prices for less essential modules will easily exceed 1 million credits, whereas more important modules are priced in the tens of millions of credits each. The repair fees for the Anaconda are also relatively high, since repair costs are calculated the same way as for all ships, meaning they are based on the purchase price of the ship and its modules. It is usually cheaper to repair an Anaconda's modules using an Auto Field-Maintenance Unit. |

== Notes == |
* The Anaconda is somewhat unusual in that it features two Cargo Hatches; the primary Cargo Hatch is located towards the front of the vessel, whilst the secondary is located towards the rear of the vessel, behind the Fighter Bay. The forward/primary Hatch is used to manually scoop items from space and to deploy SRVs, whilst the rear/secondary Hatch is used by Collector Limpets when retrieving canisters or materials; when the Cargo Scoop is toggled, only the forward/primary Hatch will be lowered. |
* Due to the location of the Cargo Hatch on the Anaconda, deploying an SRV will cause the SRV to fall the distance to the ground, or in the case of boarding will cause the SRV to float upwards. Due to the Hatch location, it can also be difficult to get the SRV in the correct position to board, transfer cargo, etc. and using the handbrake may be necessary on uneven terrain. |
* Prior to a patch, the Anaconda's Cargo Hatch would open directly in front of one of its lower hardpoints, causing clipping issues. |
* The Anaconda is the only ship in the game to visually show damage to its hull, with pieces of its armour coming off and more damage being shown as its hull health lowers. This is purely cosmetic. |
* When using a Standard Docking Computer or Advanced Docking Computer at Starports, the ventral side of the Anaconda will sometimes brush against the entrance slot. This does not appear to cause any damage even if shields are not equipped. |
* An Anaconda Graveyard is located on HD 76133 (Elysium's Rest) ~ Planet 1 C ~ 23.488 / 81.934 ~ 0.18G. There is also an Anaconda Shipwreck turned into a base on HR 5906 AB. |

The pride of Faulcon deLacy's shipyards. the Anaconda is a versatile ship that can carry large cargos and pack a heavy punch. So hardy is the Anaconda, some smaller navies use it in lieu of a frigate or light cruiser. The ship can also be upgraded with a docking bay.
— In-Game Description
The Anaconda is a large ship produced by Faulcon DeLacy. A ponderous yet highly versatile vessel that excels in multiple roles, the Anaconda was originally produced by RimLiner Galactic and debuted in 2856. It's one of the most iconic vessels since the original debuted in Elite (1984).[1]
History
The Anaconda was first produced by RimLiner Galactic and debuted in 2856. It's also one of the most iconic vessels of Elite (1984).[1] The blueprint eventually came into Faulcon DeLacy's possession after several mergers. Only minor changes were made to the classic design.
The Big Three
It was considered by the independent pilot community as one of "The Big Three". DeLacy launched the reimagined successor, Anaconda Mk II, on 20 October 3312.[2]
Overview
The Anaconda offers a highly generalized hull and internal layout, which allows it to be adapted for a wide variety of roles, including exploration, trading, mining, and combat operations.

A defining characteristic of the Anaconda is its notably low base hull mass relative to its overall size. This structural trait, when combined with specific modules and engineering selections, affords it one of the highest potential jump ranges of any ship, making it a prominent choice for deep-space exploration and long-haul travel. Its bulk restricts it to large landing pads however, and has low manoeuvrability in both normal space flight[3] and supercruise[4].

Notes
- The Anaconda is somewhat unusual in that it features two Cargo Hatches; the primary Cargo Hatch is located towards the front of the vessel, whilst the secondary is located towards the rear of the vessel, behind the Fighter Bay. The forward/primary Hatch is used to manually scoop items from space and to deploy SRVs, whilst the rear/secondary Hatch is used by Collector Limpets when retrieving canisters or materials; when the Cargo Scoop is toggled, only the forward/primary Hatch will be lowered.
- Due to the location of the Cargo Hatch on the Anaconda, deploying an SRV will cause the SRV to fall the distance to the ground, or in the case of boarding will cause the SRV to float upwards. Due to the Hatch location, it can also be difficult to get the SRV in the correct position to board, transfer cargo, etc. and using the handbrake may be necessary on uneven terrain.
- Prior to a patch, the Anaconda's Cargo Hatch would open directly in front of one of its lower hardpoints, causing clipping issues.
- The Anaconda is the only ship in the game to visually show damage to its hull, with pieces of its armour coming off and more damage being shown as its hull health lowers. This is purely cosmetic.
- When using a Standard Docking Computer or Advanced Docking Computer at Starports, the ventral side of the Anaconda will sometimes brush against the entrance slot. This does not appear to cause any damage even if shields are not equipped.
- An Anaconda Graveyard is located on HD 76133 (Elysium's Rest) ~ Planet 1 C ~ 23.488 / 81.934 ~ 0.18G. There is also an Anaconda Shipwreck turned into a base on HR 5906 AB.
