'''Vehicles''' are all-terrain machines to [[Explorer|explore]] and transport people, [[goods]] or [[commodities]] on [[planets]]. They are swift, durable and ready for combat.

SRVs are purchased separately from the Hangar module. If the player dies in their SRV, they will return to their ship, regardless of if it is still landed, or has taken off automatically. Any SRV damage is automatically repaired upon returning to the ship.
== SRV ==
Surface Recon Vehicle (SRV) is a vehicle class that is used by [[Commander|commanders]] to traverse a planetary surface. It's faster than walking [[On Foot]], yet slower and more nimble than a [[Ships|ship]]. The SRV features storage space for [[commodities]], and enables close examination of [[Points of Interest|points of interest]] in relative safety. SRV fuel and ammunition can be [[Synthesis|synthesized]] as needed if the pilot has sufficient [[materials]].

== Scarab ==
SRVs can be carried by [[ships]] with a [[Planetary Vehicle Hangar]] (PVH). SRVs are purchased together with a PVH for storage and maintenance. The PVH module can be transferred between ships, but SRVs cannot be transferred between hangars.

The [[Scarab]] is a [http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Surface_Recon_Vehicles Surface Recon Vehicle] that allows pilots to drive around planetary surfaces in the [http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite_Dangerous:_Horizons Elite Dangerous: Horizons] expansion.[http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/#cite_note-1 <nowiki>[1]</nowiki>]Combat-wise it is outfitted with a shield and a plasma repeater turret.
Planetary gravity affects the handling of SRVs. High gravity causes the SRV to hug the terrain with great traction, but struggles to climb hills or boost into the air. Low gravity makes the SRV feel very light and it floats easily. Traction is quickly lost you can use the thrusters to launch high into the air. You should avoid damaging collisions or unintentional extreme jumps.

The Scarab takes up one vehicle bay in the [http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Planetary_Vehicle_Hangar Planetary Vehicle Hangar]. This module provides the on-board hangar space to carry and repair an SRV, which is purchased separately from the Hangar module. This may use an [[Internal Compartment]].
Any damage sustained by an SRV is automatically repaired when it boards the Vehicle Bay. If an SRV is destroyed, the pilot will [[Redeployment|redeploy]] aboard their ship and a new vehicle must be bought. Whether the ship is parked on the surface or automatically returned to orbit doesn't matter.

The Scarab can move at different speeds on different surfaces. On roads in cities the scarab can easily reach a top speed of 38m/s with 4ps. On other surfaces the speed is much less, such as little hills and rocky terrain. Gravity also affects how fast the Scarab can move. Unlike guardians, sentries, and Goliath skimmers, the Scarab is not detectable in a ship. It is possible to detect a scarab while in another scarab. The Scarab appears from a ship as a little light moving across the surface.The Scarab features working headlights and brake-lights.
The [[Wave Scanner]] is capable of locking onto small threats such as skimmers, on foot persons and surface objects such as [[Cargo Canister|canisters]]. The SRV turret is effective versus on foot enemies from afar.

SRVs have a [[Wave Scanner]] which is an unidirectional long-range forward facing scanner that detects a variety of vehicles and points of interest. [[Category:Gameplay]]

== Skimmers ==
Skimmers are small, remotely-piloted surface vehicles that hover at low altitudes over a planet's surface. They usually guard [[Settlement|Settlements]] and [[Shipwreck|Shipwrecks]]. Skimmers cannot be used by players.

There are plans for more classes and sizes of Surface Recon Vehicles (SRV). They will have different [[Internal Compartment|Internal Compartments]] for the Planetary Vehicle Hangar module which provides the on-board hangar space to carry and repair an SRV.
===Exopod===
[[File:Exopod render.png|thumb|250px|right|Exopod]]
An [[Exopod]] is a single-pilot space utility vehicle designed for short excursions in local areas of space, such as carrying components around [[Capital Ship Dock]]s.<ref>[[:File:Exopod render.png|Exopod Render]]</ref> Exopods are currently unavailable for purchase.

In 2016 during an AMA, David Braben was asked "is there an ETA for planetary mining? and will we get a special SRV for that purpose" Braben said "No ETA yet, but it is planned."<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/4l4f3c/ask_him_anything_david_braben_cocreator_of_elite/d3k7rlb/</ref>
==Notes==
* Originally there were plans for additional classes of SRVs to be released during ''[[Elite Dangerous: Horizons|ED: Horizons]]'', but they did not materialise before the next expansion ''[[Elite Dangerous: Odyssey|ED: Odyssey]]''. In 2016 during an AMA, [[David Braben]] was asked ''"is there an ETA for planetary mining? and will we get a special SRV for that purpose"'' Braben said ''"No ETA yet, but it is planned."''<ref>[https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/4l4f3c/ask_him_anything_david_braben_cocreator_of_elite/d3k7rlb/ r/EliteDangerous: Ask Him Anything: David Braben, co-creator of Elite, co-founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and Frontier's head honcho]</ref>
* Files datamined from the ''ED: Odyssey'' alpha hinted at two additional SRV models, the [[Scorpion]] and the [[Rhino]]. The Scorpion was officially released with ''ED: Odyssey'' Update 9.<ref>[https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-odyssey-update-9-notes.595180/ Frontier Forums: Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | Update 9 Notes]</ref>
