New page

I know that answer is 4 years too late, but still, there is nothing surprising.

Brown dwarf is not only very cold star, it's also lies on the opposite scale of "dense". Basically, every time you reach that close to the dwarf, you are not NEAR it. You are literally IN it. Your surroundings are not vacuum and it's not radiation that heats you up.

It's conduction. And that means that reflective paint won't do you any good against it. And, due to ship being metal, it's very susceptible to said process.

Also, traveling fast in the gas cloud generates a lot of friction which grants you that extra nasty heat buildup (Which IRL is the reason why most "shooting stars" don't land on our planet at all) and static charge, which might interfere with your electronic systems.

That's why I would love to see atmospheric landings in E:D even though I am sceptical about chances: Devs are nerdy enough to acknowledge the problems of atmospheric landings.
