New page

I am wondering who or what defines a ship as fighter, multipurpose, or whatever?

For me every ship that has at least 6 internal spaces and can get a jumprange of 15+ LJ without compromising would be multipurpose as you can fit it with enough sensors for bountyhunting and exploring and have even at least one cargorack, and do some minor exploring in the bubble.

I was thinking mainly because of two ships I ahve been flying over the last few months a lot. The Viper Mk IV and the Federal Assault Ship, both are classified as combat, but if you compare them to multipurpose ships in their range there is not mcuh difference. The Viper MK IV is very similar to the Cobra MK III. While the Viper MK III is a pure fighter for me the MK IV was more a ajck of all trades with 8 internals you can cram everything you want into it, and still ahve a good 20LJ jumprange.

Similar for the Assualt Ship, its sister ship the Dropship is classified as Multipurpose, the Assaultship is not that much different, trading 1 internal for a bit better jumprange and maneuverability, and a bit different weaponlayout.
