Having just played both back-to-back, I'd caution you to not get your hopes up very far.

Only thing they have in common really is being able to see people to your sides and ahead of you (in some ships the pilot can't see anyone at all) and the pilot giving up control of the guns to someone else. Honestly, beyond that, the biggest similarity is that you don't have to individually get x number of hits on a target to get bounty credit. But even that comes with a caveat, that the shares are not the orignally promised copies, but are unequal distributions that can vary pretty wildly. (Personal experience is 2 to 1, highest I've seen reported is 10 to 1. At that rate, I'd rather stress about getting enough shots in to get payed.)
