Such a misunderstood module - there is one reason and one reason you want these, 4 TIMES the range. That is a HUGE time saving when doing painite mining as you can start mining rocks at 4 times the distance. They do run hotter, so you have to plan your build around that, but if you want the ultimate mining build these are for it. Sure, they are class one only but with 3 of them even with 11 collectors on a T9 or Cutter 3 of these will produce fragments faster than your limpets can pick them up.

As for using them for combat sure, I've killed a few commanders with them just to do it - but come on, these are NOT combat modules at all.
